Where Inspiration Comes From

Concert in the Street III
Cristy giving an inspired impromptu concert in the street
The best thing that can happen to a person is to become inspired. There's just no replacement for that feeling of curiosity and excitement we sometimes feel when we've experienced something great that we just can't wait to try out ourselves! And within the rich world of photography there is PLENTY to motivate and push us to want to do new things.

I really love the Strobist community that David Hobby has created. The knowledge is all out there and you're encouraged to learn and participate - the only real stipulation is...don't be a dick....

Lisa Bettany is also an encouraging source of inspiration. Part of the great thing about her (besides the fact that she's a fellow Canadian) is that you can see her whole journey from not that long ago when she was using a lot of the gear I have now and was already producing some really great work fairly early on in the game. She's gone on to get some pretty great gigs and now takes spectacular images, so...it is possible!

I'm also continually amazed at how much positive energy and support there is within the Flickr community. It's a great way to connect with others, share information and...ask questions!!!

Swings!Photoshop can be a daunting program to get familiar with, but is well worth the time and effort. The trick is to learn a bit at a time. When you learn one new trick or function in photoshop, you have a new tool to put in your photoshop toolbox so to speak. Over time you'll gradually fill your toolbox with the tools you'll be able to pull out when you need them again to use to your creative advantage, just like with any other skill. Before too long I think you'll find that you can cover the basics and get on to some pretty cool techniques that open up a wider range of possibilities and creative processes.

Cristy's Snowball FightPSDtuts is a great place to learn a range of techniques in varying degrees of difficulty. Another super great place to check out is Lynda.com.

I'd also like to say that it's been very encouraging to get such positive feedback in the form of comments and several personal messages. It definitely helps to move forward, so...thank you and write me anytime!

Oops! Have I missed something?! Help share the love & resources by adding them with a short description in the comments section or write me and I'll make sure it gets posted!
